United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)

Morning greeting, today is March 09 2020. I would like to share one of my teaching stories in BSI class. I believe Indonesian teachers know what BSI is. This is not a obligatory subject but taken by students to add more activities in English. In this class, we love taking UN SDG as one of the discussions. Having this topic as our theme of the class is always challenging. Not only because that is good topic to discuss but also because that is meaningful for our students.

UNSGD or United Nation Sustainable Development Goals are the goals decided by United Nation to achieve together among all members. The goals can be seen in the poster published by United Nation below.

You can go further to the link to explore the details. What do we do in the class? I distributed the students into groups. One group was given one goal that was randomly taken.

Our class projects are:

1. Students explore the website, cases and any other materials regarding the goal.
(READING, CLASS ACTIVITIES: GROUP DISCUSSION, SOFT SKILL: CRITICAL
    THINKING, DIGITAL LITERACY)
2. They create one poster under the topic and publish that into classroom wall.
(WRITING, CLASS ACTIVITIES: DESIGN POSTERS, SOFT SKILL: CREATIVITY)
3. They develop one talk show, discussing the topic.
(SPEAKING & LISTENING; CLASS ACTIVITIES: TALK SHOW, SOFT SKILL: PUBLIC
    SPEAKING)

The most important part is you should prepare your students knowledge related to digital literacy such as how to evaluate sources, considering cases to be published, not to do plagiarism by appropriate quoting the sources, and many others.

Here are some posters made by my amazing students. Check them out.
